By unveiling the iPhone 14 Pro Max in September, Apple explained that it had integrated a new chip under the chassis: the A16 Bionic processor. A faster component than the A15 Bionic chips of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, which are also found on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max . The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, for their part, are powered by the A14 Bionic chip that is also found in the iPad Air 4 or in the tenth generation iPad.

But then, what are the real differences in terms of speed with such technical sheets? To find out, our colleagues at iClarified performed a benchmark with their own measurements by testing the capabilities of the best Apple smartphones over the last three generations. More precisely, it is here to check which one lights up the fastest . And the result may not be what you expected…

A more efficient older model?

Indeed, surprisingly it is here the iPhone 13 Pro Max which is doing the best with only 12.366 seconds on the clock. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is second with 13.033 seconds while the iPhone 12 Pro Max closes the podium with 16.3 seconds, four seconds more than this year’s model or so. However, this result should be considered with some caution.

And for good reason: the iPhone 12 Pro Max tested here is probably not a new device , because it is impossible to find it in the Apple Store today. Cupertino no longer offers it for sale, even if the “classic” iPhone 12 is still available in stores. The product tested here is therefore probably at least a few months old. It can also be a repackaged edition. In short, his system may have already been running for long periods of time, so this may have affected his responsiveness.

L’iPhone 13 Pro Max is still great

The iPhone 13 Pro Max, despite everything, remains quite recent although it is no longer published by Apple either. However, it can regularly be found on promotion at third-party resellers for a much more affordable price than its successor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, whose base price is moreover displayed at 1,479 euros . For comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro Max was only worth “1,259” euros when it was released.

However, the two smartphones have many points in common , including the size of their screen (6.7 inches), the amount of RAM (6 GB) or charging by Lightning socket.
