iOS 16 on the iPhone 14 Pro supports a feature known as “Dynamic Island”, which displays hardware and system-level notifications, media playback data, and other app-specific “live activities” as indicators on either side of the camera and sensor cut-outs, They are rendered on a black rounded rectangle, providing the illusion that the cut-out is expanding and contracting. For example, notifications for incoming calls appear in a banner that stretches out horizontally from the sensors, while Face ID indicators drop down vertically from the sensor cutout rather than appearing in the center of the display as on previous models. The Dynamic Island can also be tapped to view additional details; for example, ongoing activities like Maps directions or sports scores can also be expanded by tapping and holding the area.
