Here is finally the list of iPads supporting iPadOS 16:

  • All iPads introduced in 2022 and later
  • All iPad Pros
  • 3rd generation iPad Air (2019)
  • 4th generation iPad Air (2020)
  • 5th generation iPad Air (2022)
  • 5th generation iPad (2017)
  • 6th generation iPad (2018)
  • 7th Generation iPad (2019)
  • 8th generation iPad (2020)
  • 5th generation iPad mini (2019)
  • 6th generation iPad mini (2021)

Be careful though, the Stage Manager functionality is only supported by iPads with Apple silicon chip, the following models, therefore:

  • 5th generation iPad Air (2022)
  • iPad Pro 11″ 3rd Generation (2021)
  • iPad Pro 12.9″ 5th generation (2021)

Either way, be aware that the lack of iPadOS 16 or iOS 16 support on an older iPad or iPhone doesn’t mean the end of all Apple support. The Californian firm regularly offers updates for old OS. It is mainly a question of proposing security patches, but it is to know all the same: the Californian firm does not abandon (completely) the users of old smartphones or tablets.
