According to a report by Semafor, Microsoft is in talks to invest $10 billion in OpenAI, the organization behind the conversational AI known as ChatGPT. The funding round also includes other investment companies and documents have been sent to potential investors in recent weeks, with the goal of finalizing the funding by the end of 2022. Neither Microsoft nor OpenAI has commented on the report. Previously, The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI was in discussions to sell part of its capital, valuing the company at around $29 billion. The funding terms reportedly include Microsoft receiving 75% of OpenAI’s profits until they recoup their initial investment, once the company determines a way to monetize ChatGPT. It’s also worth mentioning that Microsoft already invested $1 billion in OpenAI, which was founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk and investor Sam Altman, in 2019.
