We are truly honored that you, like my grandparents and so many others, have chosen to help build the United States.

Thank you for reminding us what we all owe this country.

Thanks for the reminder that those rights and freedoms, while so many of us take them for granted, are not universal. We really are lucky to be citizens of such a great nation.

And of course, congratulations!

Rima, I’m being sworn in at Faneuil Hall next month. can you provide information on the ceremony ? How long did it take ? How far in advance did you have to arrive ? Was there a limit on number of guests ? Any info would be great – thanks !

Hello, CitizenSoon!

I don’t remember all of the details exactly, but I do recall receiving something in the mail some weeks before the ceremony explaining these details. It was a leaflet that basically described your expected attire and when to arrive.

Without having this on hand, I’d say just plan to be there early, maybe by a half-hour. I tend to be early for everything, however. :)

The ceremony took a few hours. There were great speeches, and the whole event was really inspiring. When it was all said and done, my husband and I enjoyed a yankee meal Durgin Park and a margarita at that cute Mexican place. :)

I’m not sure if there’s a limit to the number of guests, but my husband was able to join me, no problem. Generally, guests will go to the seating at the sides of and above the main room, while you and other oath-takers will sit together at the main level. :) It’s a wonderful experience!

Hopefully the last section of this PDF can better answer some of your questions: http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/chapter5.pdf — barring that, try calling the USCIS or Faneuil Hall directly. :)

Also? Congratulations!!! I know it’s been a long journey. Welcome to the family. :)

-Rima
