In case you haven’t heard, the members of U2 are taking cues from The Beatles these days and putting on “secret” concerts. Bono and the gang played one show last night at Davis Square’s Somerville Theatre, a mere ten-minute walk from my home and one of the tiniest non-bar venues the band could have chosen for this occasion. Were it not for the internet, I suspect the event would also have been just as “low key” as the later Beatles shows were.
Justin Meisinger, a teaching assistant for the JO540 New Media discussion section, reported on the concert for CNN’s citizen journalism service, iReport. The report (as well as an interview with Meisinger) eventually found its way to Headline News. You can watch the segment below:

Cool, but I could have done without this:
MEISINGER CALLS THE SOMERVILLE THEATER
A SMALL, “NON-DESCRIPT HOLE-IN-THE-WALL”
Ouch.
The Somerville Theatre has too much character and history to be considered a “hole in the wall.” Then again, the quote is out of context since we don’t hear him actually say it.
He could have called it a non-descript hole in the wall, or he could have said something like “people might think it’s a small, non-descript hole-in-the-wall.”
The beauty of this situation, though, is that I can simply ask him.
Hi Ron,
I noticed they butchered my quote a bit…which is fine. I originally mentioned that compared to a large theater or venue (such as something found in the theater district) that the Somerville Theater is comparably a hole in the wall. I also mentioned non-descript since it isn’t really flashy.
I’d agree it’s a very cool theater and has a lot of character. Sorry to have offended any Somerville Theater fans.
